Lesson 1: Family - Summary of Father and Son – Cat Stevens

The son wants to make a change but his father reminding (सम्झाउनु) it’s time to do so. The father thinks that he is doing that because of his young (कलिलो) age. He said him to stay calm (सान्त) and find a girl and marry her to live a happy married life like him. The father knows that to stay calm is very difficult (अप्ठेरो) task in young age. He was also passed (बिताउनु) his young age but he could become calm after thinking very carefully for a long time. So the son also has to think seriously and deeply he will have to live in coming days although his hopes (आशा) and desires (इच्छा) change.

The father refused (नकार्नु) to help him when he tried (कोशिस) to talk about his hopes and desires. The son ordered to listen, when he wants to talk. The son thinks it is better to leave his father to avoid or be far from those situations. The advice (सल्लाह) and suggestion (सुझाब) is no more helpful for son. It is not right, so he does not agree (सहमत) with his father. It is difficult for him to keep his dreams (सपना) under control but also no more difficult for him to neglect (बेवास्ता) them.

Important Question Solution:
Discuss these points with a partner.

a) The father’s attitude to his son and the son’s attitude to his father. Which do you more easily identify with? ( बाको छोराप्रतिको दृस्तिकोण, र छोराको बप्रतिको दृस्तिकोण | तिमिले आफुलाई कोसंग मिल्छु जस्तो लाग्छ ? )
Ans. The difference between the son’s attitude (दृस्तिकोण) and Father’s attitude is the resultant of generation (पुस्ता) gap (दुरी). I mean the difference (फरक) in ideas, feelings, interest, and company (संगत) between new generation and the old generation and there is lack of understanding so it cause. When there is unwanted or irritational (झ्य्यो लाग्ने) advice from the parents (परिवार), the son wants to leave (छोड्नु) home. The father thinks that his son is still young so, he must follow (मान्नु) his advice. In this same way the son thinks that his father doesn't cares (वास्ता) about his desires and had leave home and lead his life freely. The father doesn't understand (बुझ्नु) his son’s desire and want to live the way the father likes. This is all due to the difference between the attitude of old generation and new generation.

b) Have you ever experienced this kind of relationship with a parent or a child? ( यस्तो खालको अनुभब तिमीले बाआमा वा छोराछोरीका साथ कहिलै गरेका छौ ? )
Ans. This kind of relationship (सम्बन्ध) between father and son is very common (समन्ने) in community (समाज) like ours. In our society (समाज) all the responsibilities (जिम्मेवारी) are on the hand of father so they treated (गर्नु) like god. The son has to do what father ordered (हुकुम). The son should have opportunity (अवसर) to fulfill his desires. He only has to fulfill (पुरा गर्नु) the father’s desire in order to become an obedient (आज्ञाकारी) son. In the song also son wants to leave away the home and earn (कमाउनु) money to support his family but his father wants to stay at home and take care of his farm. He doesn't like to hear (सुन्नु) anything against (विरुद्ध) him. And this is a life of middle class peoples.
